Senate

After receiving complaints about the night shuttle, Senate decided to investigate the quality of nightly transportation through a student survey. They found that many students perceived the shuttle to be tardy, off-route, and undependable.
Redeemer’s night shuttle is privately hired by Senate through Attridge busing because Hamilton’s main bus system, Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), does not run through Redeemer at night.
Senate is currently discussing how to improve the nightly bus system for students.

On Sunday, September 26th, Student Senate members met within the school to hold the annual budget meeting. The commitment to a meeting held on Sunday became a point of contention for a number of students, including the Crown’s editor-in-chief, who brought it to public attention in last month’s edition of the Crown in the article “Not on my behalf please”.

Since the beginning of the semester, Student Senate has been working behind the scenes to ensure that student life is the best that it can be. The early stages of the semester were comprised of first-year elections and budget proposals. This year, our school has about 40 clubs, which involve over 200 people; these clubs range from Senate itself to The Crown, and include Anno Domini, The Minstrel, Magic Club, Kids Club, Deedz, Outdoors Club, H2O, Kuyper’s Café, Tae Kwon Do, and many others.

Student Senate consists of 13 elected students that make a variety of decisions that influence the experiences students have at Redeemer University College. These decisions, although often voted upon by the entirety of the Student Senate, are created and used by four different committees that the Executive Senate members chair. There are the Activities Committee, the SASC Committee (Spiritual Activities and Services Committee), the Student Affairs Committee, and the Communications Committee.

What? Senate is changing? Why yes, yes it is. Recently, Jessica Ramsay, your Activites Chair decided to step down from her position on Student Senate to venture outside of the Redeemer campus to lands unknown. Almost immediately after hearing this news, Paul DeWeerd, your President, embarked on his search for Redeemer's Next Top Activities Chair. The first step was to analyze Student Senate's Constitution. After reading said Constitution, it came to Paul's attention that there was no clear procedure for him to take.
