The Sports World has seen many interesting stories develop over recent decades; those who follow major leagues around the world would agree. We all remember Michael Vick and his dog fighting ring that resulted in a criminal offense.

London England, home of the Royal family, Big Ben, Wimbledon, Buckingham Palace, the London Bridge and the 2012 Summer Olympics. As Canadians continue to live in the afterglow of the incredible 2010 Winter Olympics, we look forward to the next challenge as a field of athletes look to bring home the gold once again. The 2011-2012 NHL season has begun and Canadians are ecstatic as we watch our nation field another hockey team this year. Winnipeg citizens went crazy in May 2011 as rumours and negotiations were confirmed, and their long lost team was resurrected from what seemed to be death. True North Sports & Entertainment is responsible for the frenzy as the Canadian based company purchased the Jets for a whopping $170 million.

Hockey has had its fair share of items to debate over the past few years. Things such as fighting, head checks, cheap shots and Sean Avery are continually discussed amongst fans, managers and owners alike. The truth remains, monkey see, monkey do. What children see on Hockey Night in Canada is what children do in their own leagues. Minor hockey in Ontario especially, has noticed the increase in violence in their leagues.

Redeemer athletes can breathe a sigh of relief as more than 8, 000 college support staff are expected to return to work on September 20, 2011. The Royals' athletic opening day was postponed as OCAA teams were unable to play. Despite the setback, Redeemer is now in the process of gearing up the various varsity teams for the games ahead.
Fear hung in the air as entire seasons could have been cancelled for teams such as varsity soccer and cross country.
