The men's volleyball team has extra motivation to make it to the Provincial Championships this year -- an opportunity to play on a home court filled with bleachers of Royals fans. Last May at the OCAA Annual General Meeting in Windsor, it was decided that Redeemer would host the 2009-2010 Volleyball Championships. This is the first time that Redeemer will host the prestigious volleyball tournament.

Student Senate recently completed its budget for the academic year. Operating out of a nearly sixty thousand dollar account, the funds are mostly going towards financing student clubs, activities, and publications.

In 2008, part time philosophy professor David Peck founded the non-governmental organization called SoChange. Peck describes the purpose of SoChange as “encouraging others to think differently about themselves and about the majority world. It’s about planting seeds of change of various kinds. We teach, we build capacity, we organize public events, we advocate and we assist NGO’s as they try to raise funds.

As part of the Federal Government’s Knowledge and Infrastructure Program, Redeemer has renovated the Food Services area, moving Williams to a more convenient location along the main corridor, and opening a new food service, Refresh, in the Food Court.

Campus Services has put forth much time and energy towards creating a versatile, secure card, called the R/UC Express, a significant upgrade over the former campus card. The R/UC Express can be used across campus for student meal plans, debit transactions, athletic centre admittance, as a bus pass, to check books out of the library and, new to this year, to operate student accessible photocopiers. The first advantage of the new campus card is the embedded magnetic stripe that provides fast, easy transactions with unquestionable security.

As many of you probably heard over the summer, Redeemer received a $2,947,302 grant from the federal government’s Knowledge and Infrastructure Program, marking Redeemer’s first investment from the federal government. Redeemer plans to invest the money into twenty-five projects that fall into four categories: Research and Development, Sustainability, Safety and Security, and Student Services. Specifically, the federal grant has given Redeemer the ability to invest in its academic building, performing much needed maintenance upgrades and improvements without significant limitations.
