Dwight Duncan, Ontario’s Minister of Finance spoke to the Economics Club of Canada on February 13.  He described two diets that are currently happening in Ontario: his own and that of the province of Ontario.  Duncan noted that as he has begun to deny himself dessert, fast food and other unhealthy foods, so too must Ontario go on a diet to wean itself from the deficit that has been causing Ontario’s belly to swell.

The world lost one of its most colourfully dressed and repressive dictators on Thursday, October 20. Muammar Gadhafi was killed in his hometown of Sirte. Conflicting reports say that Gadhafi was captured alive but was killed later in the crossfire between revolutionary and pro-Gadhafi forces.

If all of us promise to turn our backs and talk amongst ourselves we might be able to convince our shy new dome to rise.  Barring any unforeseeable hurricanes or heavy rain the soccer complex should be inflated Friday morning.

Two weeks ago much of the world took notice of a ten-year anniversary. It was a ten-year anniversary that the same world wished never would need to be taken note of.  Ten years ago most of us were getting ready for our second week of middle school on that fateful day.  Class was interrupted mere minutes after it had begun.  Teachers rolled in televisions and we sat in shocked silence at the horror that was unfolding.  Those events shook us.  9/11 was the most calamitous event that ever took place in our lives.

Some students at Redeemer University College are worried about the potential financial impact of the construction of a soccer dome.  The Field For All Seasons is a joint project between Redeemer and the Ancaster Soccer Club (ASC).  The cost of the dome is $6.4 million and will be funded through government assistance and contributions from ASC and Redeemer.
