Jane and Finch, Toronto: while some may immediately think of crime and violence upon hearing of this place, a group of Redeemer students experienced tremendous blessing during a recent weekend visit to this community. On November 4-6, nine Redeemer students spent time in the Jane and Finch area for the “Toronto Service-Learning Trip” through H2O (Help to Others).

This weekend I visited my aunt, uncle, and cousin. As we were sitting around the kitchen table, I saw a beautiful metaphor for life. My aunt was mending some of Molly the dog’s toys. These two stuffed animals had been worn out. They were ripped open and the stuffing was falling out. They weren’t good for playing with anymore. So my aunt was stitching them up, carefully sewing up the holes so that they would be useful again. Molly was in the other room for most of the time, but then she saw the toys that were being sewn. She wanted them.

On Saturday, October 2, 2010, approximately 30 Redeemer students loaded onto a bus headed for Wentworth Baptist Church to take part in “Cross Culture," which is a semi-annual event that combines worship and service, teaching and fellowship. The day began at 9 a.m. as we joined together with about 100 youth and pastors from the surrounding area for a time of worship through songs and encouragement as we prepared to continue worshiping through service. After this, we split into 10 groups and went to various locations to put our love into action.
