Redeemer welcomes new faculty
Wednesday, April 13th, 2011
In September 2011, Redeemer University-College will have new faculty members in various departments,
having already hired three professors in three different departments, Psychology, Religion & Theology, and Education. Throughout the year, Redeemer has undergone a hiring and review process in search of new faculty members who will benefit and add to the school.
Joining Redeemer in September is Professor Laura Luchies, who has been hired as a Psychology professor. She
is currently completing her PhD in Experimental Psychology at Northwestern University in Illinois. As well, Professor Ben
Dunson has been added to Redeemer as a Religion & Theology professor. Dunson is finishing up his PhD in New
Testament Studies at the University of Durham (UK). Further, Professor Phil Teeuwsen will be joining Redeemer’s faculty in the 2012 winter semester in the Education department. Teeuwsen has already been involved with Redeemer, serving
on Redeemer’s board and Academic Senate. He has also been teaching part-time for Redeemer this semester. Currently,
Teeuwsen is in a full-time PhD program at Brock University.
Also, interviews have been taking place both in the French and English departments for new professors
upon the departure of Professor Doug Loney and Professor Petra. The process is still ongoing and finalizations will be made by the end of the month. The application for these positions has been intensive as prospect professors submitted essays, student evaluations, and previous work to qualify for an interview. If the professor was chosen as a potential, they were invited to a day on Redeemer’s campus where they met department members, gave a 50 minute lecture, and met
with two interview committees. They also meet with the president and social Vice-President Doug Needham. The day lasts from 8:30am-7pm.
Dr. Ellens and the recruitment team were looking for someone who is strong in their field. “We want
someone who has a good history of teaching or that shows potential... we’re looking for strong scholars”, says
Ellens. They are seeking someone who wants to teach and grow through Christian academics, as well as to explore the importance of the philosophical and theological worldview behind their area of study.
